Aims :
To develop a practical competency in CBT/REBT for social phobia.
To develop a critical knowledge of theory.
Learning Objectives :
- To gain an understanding of diagnosis and characteristics for social phobia.
- To become familiar with pharmacological and psychological treatment for social phobia.
- To be able to assess social phobia and include the role of medication, substance use and previous treatments.
- To be able to identify problematic situations, patterns of avoidance, self focussed attention, processing of self, safety-seeking behaviours and images.
- To be able to develop a therapeutic relationship with evidence of an awareness of key interpersonal difficulties.
- To be able to use standard measures to evaluate outcomes with CBT/REBT for social phobia.
- To be able to work with self-focussed attention including safety-seeking behaviours and external focus exercises both in and out of sessions.
- To become familiar with anticipatory anxiety and post-event processing in social phobia.
- To become familiar with identifying and working with specific childhood memories and images through discussion techniques, cognitive restructuring and imagery rescripting.
- To be able to derive specific related homework tasks and evaluating these in the next session.
- Ending therapy, review of gains, achievements, maintenance and relapse prevention.
