Occupational Health, Welfare, Personnel, Nurses, Teachers, Community Workers, Counsellors, GPs, Voluntary Sector Workers and those who would like to learn and use CBT/REBT skills within their own counselling style.
Aims :
To develop a practical competency in CBT/REBT for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD).
To develop a critical knowledge of theory.
Learning Objectives :
- To gain an understanding of diagnosis and characteristics for OCD.
- To become familiar with pharmacological and psychological treatment for OCD.
- To be able to assess OCD and include the role of medication, substance use and previous treatments.
- To be able to identify triggers, patterns of avoidance and safety-seeking behaviours, rituals and reassurance seeking.
- To be able to use standard measures to evaluate outcomes with CBT/REBT for OCD.
- To be able to identify intrusive thoughts, obsessional fears and related rituals.
- To become familiar with the use of exposure and response prevention to include therapist modelling as appropriate.
- To become familiar with issues of responsibility and probability in OCD.
- To be able to encourage clients to elicit and re-evaluate intrusive images and cognitive construction (cognitive restructuring).
- To raise awareness of working with obsessional rumination, identifying rituals and implement strategies to reduce them.
- To be able to derive specific related homework tasks and evaluating these in the next session.
- Ending therapy, review of gains, achievements, maintenance and relapse prevention.
